Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for your business

Scroll through the list of FAQs below. If you don’t see what you need, call us at 800.259.0455, email us or start an online chat. As always, we’ll be here when you need us.

Q: Do I need to fill out a census form before getting a quote?
A: Yes. You can use our online census form.

Q: Do I need individual health insurance if I’m self employed?
A: Depending on the state where your business resides, you may be able to join a “group of one” health plan. These can save you money over an individual policy. However, if you don’t have that option, it is still vitally important that you cover your healthcare. In addition, we always recommend you add disability to your list of insurance benefits if you're a small business owner.

Q: What type of health or life plan should we offer our employees?
A: That all depends on a lot of factors. When you call, our agents will work with you to pinpoint the right policy for your company and your employees. Ultimately, you’ll have to choose from an HMO (health maintenance organization), PPO (preferred provider organization) or a POS (point-of-service plan). All are great options for different reasons. And it’s our job to show you which one is right for your company.

Q: Does the coverage get cheaper the more employees I add?
A: Unfortunately, no. While the number of employees does add to the cost of any healthcare options or life insurance options you provide, the real driver is the age of each employee, their prior health, any current and past claims and more. We will work with you to help you save as much money as possible while still providing the coverage your employees deserve.

Q: How much of the premium will my business need to pay?
A: Every company is different and so is every plan, but you can expect to pay less for family coverage and more for individuals.

Q: Am I required to provide health or life insurance?
A: No. But the benefits far outweigh the costs. Studies have shown that companies that provide even the most basic benefits see increased productivity, decreased absenteeism and less turnover.
